Hello Royal Victory Thoroughbreds Partners and Racing Enthusiasts,

Welcome to the first RVT Newsletter! We hope you like the new look and this new format for ongoing updates for all things Royal Victory Thoroughbreds.

Although the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes have all been run for the past 150 years, did you know the Triple Crown was not named as such until 1930?

The term was first coined by Charles Hatton, a writer for the New York Times after Gallant Fox won all three races. The first Triple Crown winner was credited to Sir Barton, who crossed the line first in all three races in 1919 (recognized in 1948).

While there won’t be a Triple Crown winner in 2025, the Belmont Stakes is setting up to be an epic showdown as Preakness winner Journalism seeks to turn the table on Sovereignty, who bested him in the Kentucky Derby. A few others legit contenders include Baeza (3rd in the Derby) and Rodriguez (1st in the Wood Memorial).

While we may not have a horse for the Belmont Festival this week, Royal Victory Thoroughbreds has several horses currently in training. After a quiet winter and spring to date, we are anticipating a summer with plenty of action, including several career debuts!

In the Spotlight 🔦Chief Wild Eagle, 19

As his sire is a little-known WA-based stallion with a modest $1,000 stud fee, Chief Wild Eagle has already beaten the odds with his results on the racetrack. He is also the first of four horses of racing age out of the mare Hekawi (by Tribal Rule).

With four career victories and more than $100k in career earnings, Chief Wild Eagle is also the first stakes placed racehorse donning the Royal Victory Thoroughbreds colors after scoring a game third in the 2022 Alcatraz Handicap at Golden Gate Fields.

Following an extended layoff starting in Dec 2023, Chief Wild Eagle returned to starting gate at Santa Anita in March 2025. He has since raced two more times, finishing 4th and 7th in tough allowance level company at Santa Anita.

Looking ahead, Chief Wild Eagle is headed to Emerald Downs to match up against some of the local Emerald horses. Under the backdrop of Mount Rainier, he will seek to score his fifth career victory.
