Royal Victory Thoroughbreds - October Newsletter

News and updates from Royal Victory Thoroughbreds Racing Partnerships.

Hello Royal Victory Thoroughbreds Partners and Racing Enthusiasts,

A light breeze carries the chill of early autumn and blows the freshly fallen leaves across a suddenly silent backstretch at Emerald Downs. The sounds of clopping hoofs, nickering horses and busy humans attending to their star attractions in the barn have since departed. The summer meet has concluded at the Washington venue. Similarly, racing has wrapped up at other venues such as Colonial Downs, Del Mar and Saratoga. It’s not just a change in the season, but a transitional time for horse racing.

As these summer venues close, we find ourselves returning to some old familiar places. Laurel Park has reopened its doors for the premiere autumn meet in the MidAtlantic region. The meet is highlighted by Maryland Millions Day (Oct 11), featuring a full card of locally bred stakes races. In California, racing has returned to the ‘Great Race Place’ at Santa Anita where predictably warm weather allows for year-round turf racing. Out east, another big transition is unfolding as historic Aqueduct (opened in 1894) enters its final winter season of racing. When it closes in 2026, there will no longer be a racetrack within the city limits of New York!

Peeking ahead to November, we’ll transition once again as the racing world will turn its attention towards the Breeders Cup. There is great anticipation this year as the Breeders Cup Classic is likely to feature a showdown of the top 3-year-olds in the world competing against the top older horses.

The great news for horseracing fans and enthusiasts is that unlike other major sports such as NFL, MLB, NBA or NHL, our season never ends, it just transitions! Enjoy the races and we’ll see you in the Winner’s Circle!

September was also a transitional period for Royal Victory Thoroughbreds. Although we had nine horses in training when the month began, we only had a trio make the starting gate. From those three races, we were encouraged by third place finishes from both Jess in Time and Flinny Tin Tin. We had anticipated career debuts from Lucky Tin Tin and Louisville Liam in September, however, both were placed on the Injured Reserve (IR) list. Fortunately, neither injury is career-threatening or requires surgery (see below for more details). Finally in September, Chief Wild Eagle was cleared to resume training after recovering from an eye injury suffered during his last race at Emerald Downs.

As we look ahead to October, Royal Victory Thoroughbreds still has multiple horses in training. Flinny Tin Tin is at Laurel Park and expected to get her next start at nearby Charles Town while Kitty Tin Tin remains at Fingerlakes. Snowboarder recently shipped from Colonial Downs to Laurel Park and has turned in a pair of strong breezes. She should make her second career start at Laurel Park this month. Native Empress also continues to progress after several breezes at Santa Anita as she preps for her second career start. She is joined by half-brother Bang and a Boom, who will seek to break his maiden at Santa Anita this autumn.

🐴 RVT Horses - In Training 🏇

  • Kitty Tin Tin - Last race at FINGERLAKES (9/30), 5th place. This follows a 3rd and 4th place effort in July and August. The six-year old mare will remain in training at Fingerlakes for the remainder of the meet (Nov).

  • Chief Wild Eagle - Last race at EMERALD DOWNS (8/17), 2nd place. He suffered a minor eye injury during his last race but has been cleared to resume training. He’ll return to Santa Anita and could start by Dec or Jan.

  • Flinny Tin Tin - Last race at CHARLES TOWN, (9/19), 3rd place. Marked improvement in her last race, missing by just a length. She will return to Charles Town for her next race in October.

  • Native Empress - Last race at EMERALD DOWNS (7/26), 6th place. Has shipped from Del Mar to Santa Anita with several regular breezes. She is being pointed towards a CA-Restricted maiden race at Santa Anita.

  • Snowboarder - Last race at COLONIAL DOWNS (8/23), 7th place. Since relocating to Laurel Park, she has turned in a few nice breezes at the Maryland oval, where she will get her second career start.

Bang and a Boom - Last race at SANTA ANITA (12/28), 2nd place. Has shipped from Emerald Downs to Santa Anita where he continues to breeze. He’ll try to break his maiden at Santa Anita this autumn.

🚜 RVT Horses on the IR or Turned out 🧺

  • Lucky Tin Tin - After training for several months and being declared race-ready, a radiograph showed that she suffered a non-displaced condylar fracture. It was caught early and is expected to heal on its own without surgery, but she’ll need extended time off from training. She could return to training in Spring 2026.

  • Princess Hekawi - The five-year-old mare is turned out for the season in Yakima. She is expected to return to the races in April/May 2026 at Emerald Downs as a six-year-old.

  • Louisville Liam -After training for several months and even being entered (but scratched) at Colonial Downs, he developed a lesion, which is the same issue that halted his training a year ago. He’s been medically treated and will be rested for approximately six months. His long awaited debut will need to wait until 2026.

  • Jess in Time - After showing nice improvement in his second career start at Emerald Downs, he’s been turned out for the season in Yakima. He’ll return to training in the springtime and try to break his maiden at Emerald Downs in 2026 as a 3-year-old.

In the Spotlight < Snowboarder, 23

A Snowboarder is defined as someone who slides down snow-covered slopes while standing on a snowboard. However, for Royal Victory Thoroughbreds, it means a promising juvenile roan filly by Frosted out of a Dehere mare. Although the filly purchased by RVT at the MidAtlantic 2-year-old in training sale failed to menace in her debut at Colonial Downs, she has since been working sharply at Laurel Park. This includes a half-mile in 49-flat (18th fastest of 82 workers) and 5/8 in 1:02.4 (8 of 23) in August.

Her sire, Frosted (by Tapit), is a consistently top ranked stallion. He is nationally ranked at #26 this year after finishing 2024 also as #26. Frosted was also the fastest-ever Grade I Met Mile winner with a 123 Beyer rating!  Her mare, Determin This (Dehere), was only lightly raced but has produced four other foals, all winners! Let’s hope the forecast shows ample opportunity for Snowboarder to slide her way to victory over the dirt-covered slopes as she seeks to embark on a successful racing career!
